Earthquake Survivors Face Venezuela’s Darkest Days

Earthquake

Earthquake survivors across Venezuela are facing growing hardship as rescue crews continue searching for people trapped beneath collapsed buildings. Families spend each day hoping for news of missing loved ones, while many remain homeless after their homes became unsafe. As the crisis continues, many residents describe the disaster as one of the country’s darkest moments in modern history.

Earthquake damage has forced thousands of people to rely on temporary shelters or sleep outdoors. In Caracas, former police officer Jan Carlos Roa Garcia said he does not know how to rebuild his life after his apartment building became too dangerous to enter. Others shared similar fears, saying they have received little support as they try to recover from the disaster.

Earthquake survivors have also voiced frustration over the government’s response. Musician Zaira Castro said ordinary Venezuelans have taken the lead in helping one another while waiting for official assistance. During a visit to one of the affected areas, Interim President Delcy Rodriguez faced criticism from residents who accused the government of failing to provide enough support during the emergency.

Earthquake destruction has been even worse in the coastal town of La Guaira, where more than 100 buildings were flattened. Rescue teams from Venezuela and other countries continue working around the clock to search through the rubble for survivors. Residents have pleaded for more heavy equipment as hopes of finding additional survivors continue to fade.

Earthquake victims are also placing enormous pressure on hospitals already struggling with limited resources. Doctors and nurses continue treating large numbers of injured people despite years of underfunding. Survivors have described losing family members, homes, and entire neighbourhoods in the disaster. Although rescue efforts continue, many fear the critical window for finding survivors has passed, leaving Venezuela to face one of the greatest humanitarian challenges in its recent history.
