Police begin installing 200 surveillance cameras
Police have started installing more than 200 surveillance cameras across Antigua and Barbuda.
The rollout forms part of a government-backed national security initiative.
Meanwhile, officials announced the update during Thursday’s post-Cabinet briefing.
Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant shared details of the programme.
He said ICT Minister Melford Nicholas updated the Cabinet on the ongoing camera installation project.
According to Merchant, the rollout will continue over the coming months.
In addition, officials plan to place cameras at strategic locations across the country.
The government expects the system to deliver maximum surveillance coverage and stronger operational effectiveness.
Merchant said the initiative supports wider efforts to modernize national security infrastructure.
Furthermore, the project aims to improve crime prevention and detection capabilities.
“The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda has commenced the installation of security cameras,” Merchant said.
He added that the cameras will support law enforcement through modern technology and digital monitoring systems.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet reportedly expressed full support for the programme.
Officials believe the cameras will improve public safety across Antigua and Barbuda.
They also expect the system to help create safer communities islandwide.
The expansion comes as authorities continue improving investigative and security monitoring capabilities.
However, officials did not reveal the exact camera locations.
They also did not provide a timeline for completing the full deployment programme.
