Antigua Hosts Global Maritime Security Symposium
The Government of Antigua and Barbuda, through the Antigua and Barbuda Department of Marine Services and Merchant Shipping (ADOMS), partnered with the United States Department of State to host the Global Maritime Security and Sanctions Enforcement Symposium in St. John’s from July 13–15.
The event brought together representatives from ship registries, maritime authorities, international organizations, and global coalitions from 26 countries. Discussions centered on strengthening international cooperation, enhancing maritime security, and improving the enforcement of sanctions aimed at preventing the financing of weapons proliferation and other illicit activities.
Participants explored strategies to address sanctions evasion and reduce the ability of unlawful networks to operate within the global maritime industry. The symposium also provided an opportunity for countries and organizations to strengthen partnerships and share best practices.
The United States expressed appreciation to the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and ADOMS for hosting the event and reaffirmed its commitment to working with international partners to support maritime security, sanctions enforcement, and global stability.
