Magnitude

Magnitude 3.7 earthquake was recorded northeast of Antigua on Sunday night. The University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre reported the tremor.

The earthquake occurred at 9:05 p.m. local time. It struck at a depth of 10 kilometres.

According to the preliminary report, the quake measured magnitude 3.7. The epicentre was located at latitude 19.15N and longitude 62.91W.

The tremor occurred about 255 kilometres northwest of St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda. It was also 206 kilometres north of Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis.

In addition, the quake was located 273 kilometres north-northwest of Brades, Montserrat. The Seismic Research Centre released the information shortly after the event.

Officials said computer algorithms automatically calculated the earthquake location. However, analysts still need to review the data.

As a result, the location remains subject to revision. The SRC explained that updated information could follow after further analysis.

Meanwhile, the report did not mention injuries or damage. Authorities also gave no reports of disruptions following the tremor.

The Seismic Research Centre continues to monitor earthquake activity across the region. It regularly tracks seismic events throughout the Eastern Caribbean.

Earthquakes of this size are not uncommon in the region. However, officials continue to encourage public awareness and preparedness.

The SRC uses seismic monitoring systems to detect and record earthquake activity. These systems help scientists quickly identify tremors and epicentres.

The agency also provides automatic reports shortly after earthquakes occur. Analysts later review the information for accuracy and confirmation.

Sunday night’s earthquake adds to ongoing seismic activity in the Caribbean region. Scientists continue to study patterns and movement along regional fault lines.

Residents across nearby islands may have felt light shaking. However, officials have not released any public safety concerns.

The SRC said monitoring efforts remain active. Analysts continue reviewing seismic data from the event.
