New Forum Launched for Families

The Intellectual Disability Forum has been launched by Friends of the Care Project. Moreover, it recently held an informative session for families and professionals.

The session brought together parents, advocates, and specialists. In addition, it focused on support for people with intellectual disabilities.

Expert Speakers and Practical Support

Several speakers took part in the event. For example, Kendra Telesford, a Canadian certified counsellor, addressed the group.

Also, Dr Kwasi Tonge, a board member of Friends of the Care Project, spoke. Dr Tizazi London also shared insights.

Meanwhile, physiotherapist Dr Mauri contributed practical guidance. In addition, Anaira Ruiz and teacher Yumi Valdes offered strategies and perspectives.

Furthermore, Joanne Tobit demonstrated a sensory story. As a result, attendees gained useful caregiving skills.

Building a Safe Support Space

The forum aims to create a safe and supportive environment. Therefore, families can connect, learn, and grow together.

In addition, the group focuses on building confidence among caregivers. It also promotes shared learning and support.

Regular Meetings and Training

The forum will meet four times each year. Each session will last a full day.

Moreover, these meetings will include training and workshops. As a result, families will gain practical tools.

In addition, monthly meetings will take place. These sessions will allow parents to share experiences and advice.

Furthermore, discussions will help address common challenges. Therefore, a stronger support network will form over time.

Digital and Social Support Systems

Parents will also join a dedicated WhatsApp group. In this space, they can share ideas and offer support.

In addition, the group allows real-time communication. Consequently, families can stay connected between meetings.

Friends of the Care Project also plans special outings. These activities will support families emotionally.

Moreover, siblings of children with disabilities will receive attention. In addition, social events will be held for parents.

About Friends of the Care Project

Friends of the Care Project is a not-for-profit organisation. It provides services for children and adults with disabilities.

First, it runs a developmental centre for children aged two to ten. This centre offers structured early support.

In addition, it provides an adult outreach programme. This focuses on autism support and life skills.

Furthermore, it offers children’s outreach services. These include physiotherapy and communication support.

Finally, the organisation plans a future middle school. This school will use a tailored curriculum for individual learning needs.
