Antigua and Barbuda is urging member states of the Organization of American States (OAS) to support the renewal and full deployment of the Gang Suppression Force in Haiti. Ambassador Sir Ronald Sanders made the appeal alongside Haiti’s Ambassador Jean Josué Pierre during a meeting of the OAS Permanent Council.

Sanders said renewing the force’s mandate alone would not be enough, stressing that countries must also provide the personnel, financing, equipment, and logistical support needed for the mission to succeed.

The proposed initiative aims to assist the Haitian National Police and Armed Forces in restoring security, reopening key transport routes, protecting civilians, and combating the flow of illegal weapons into the country.

Antigua and Barbuda also emphasized that improved security is critical to Haiti’s democratic recovery, economic development, and the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
