Cabinet Approves Spanish as Official Second Language

The Cabinet has instructed the Ministry of Education and Science and Technology to lead implementation. The ministry will restructure the national curriculum.
As a result, Spanish will become a core subject in schools. This will apply at pre-school, primary, and secondary levels.
Furthermore, officials said the policy prepares students for wider opportunities. These include education, work, diplomacy, and trade.
Cabinet also highlighted long-standing ties with the Dominican Republic. In addition, it noted strong cultural and people-to-people connections.

The Cabinet also approved the creation of a Spanish Desk. This will sit within the Office of the Prime Minister.
The Spanish Desk will support communication with Spanish-speaking residents. It will also improve access to government services.
Meanwhile, officials said the desk will strengthen community integration. It will also serve as a direct point of assistance.
Finally, the Cabinet reaffirmed its commitment to inclusion and education. Officials said the policy will help the country thrive in a global environment.
