Parliament to begin swearing-in sessions this month
Parliament will begin a new term this month in Antigua and Barbuda.
Officials confirmed several important dates during the latest Cabinet meeting. The Attorney General shared the schedule for both parliamentary chambers.
The House of Representatives will meet on May 18. During the sitting, elected members will take their oaths.
Lawmakers will also choose a Speaker and Deputy Speaker. The government plans to nominate Osbert Frederick for Speaker.
In addition, Philmore Benjamin is expected to become Deputy Speaker.
Meanwhile, the Senate will meet on May 20. Senators will then take their oaths and officially begin their duties.
The Upper House will also elect its leadership team. The government plans to nominate Alincia Williams-Grant for Senate President.
Furthermore, Philip Shoul is expected to serve as Deputy President.
The final event will take place on May 26. On that day, Governor General Rodney Williams will deliver the Speech from the Throne.
