Social Security Board advises self-employed persons in Antigua and Barbuda on new wage requirements.

The Antigua & Barbuda Social Security Board issued the update following a change in the national wage law. Moreover, the change affects all self-employed contributors.

The update comes under the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Code (Minimum Basic Wage) Order 2026 No. 30. As a result, the National Minimum Wage now stands at EC$11.50.

This rate took effect on April 1, 2026. Therefore, all relevant declarations must reflect the new requirement.

The Board said self-employed individuals must ensure their declared earnings match the legal minimum wage. In addition, this affects Social Security contributions.

According to the notice, self-employed persons with monthly declared earnings below EC$2000 must take action. They must update their records to remain compliant.

Furthermore, the Board stressed that compliance is a legal requirement. It applies to all registered self-employed persons.

Declarations below the minimum wage will not be accepted. Therefore, contributors must adjust their records accordingly.

The Board also explained why the change matters. Benefit accuracy depends on declared contributions.

In addition, lower contributions today may reduce future payouts. As a result, individuals could receive smaller benefits later.
