Pineapple Beach Club hosts staff health expo
Pineapple Beach Club hosted its first staff Health Expo on Wednesday afternoon. The event focused on employee wellness and prevention.
Moreover, the resort built the initiative around a simple message. Health is wealth, and staff matter most. Management says workers remain its greatest asset.
The expo began at 1:30 pm on the property. Organizers planned it in response to rising health concerns. These include hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol.
Front Office Manager Amber Hazelwood led the effort. She said the goal is to keep staff informed and healthy. She also stressed the value of early detection.
In addition, Hazelwood highlighted the wider impact. Healthy workers support their families and perform better at work. Therefore, prevention remains a key priority.
To support the event, the resort partnered with the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus. This collaboration brought added expertise and resources.
Nurse Josephine Williams led a team of nursing students. The group included third and fourth-year trainees. They carried out a range of health screenings.
Staff members checked blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen levels. They also tested blood sugar and cholesterol levels. In addition, teams calculated Body Mass Index.
After screenings, employees met with specialists. Nutritionists offered advice on healthy eating. Mental health representatives also provided support and guidance.
Sherrilyn Samuel joined the team to focus on emotional well-being. She spoke with staff about stress and mental health. As a result, the expo covered both physical and mental care.
Meanwhile, participation remained strong throughout the day. More than 50 staff members attended early. Numbers grew as more workers arrived for later shifts.
Nurse Williams said her team often supports community health events. These efforts give students real-world experience. At the same time, they serve the wider public.
Hazelwood expressed satisfaction with the turnout. She said staff showed strong interest and appreciation. This response encourages future events.
Looking ahead, management plans to expand the program. The expo may not run every month. However, leaders aim to host it regularly.
They also plan to include other Island Resorts properties. This step will extend the program’s reach across the group.
Overall, the initiative promotes a culture of wellness. It also helps reduce sick days and improve productivity.
