Cabinet Ministers to Be Sworn In Tuesday After ABLP Win
Cabinet ministers will take their oaths on Tuesday. The ceremony will happen at the American University of Antigua (AUA). Meanwhile, the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) prepares to form its new administration. Additionally, this follows its decisive general election win.
Importantly, officials made the announcement during Friday’s ceremony at Government House. At that event, Prime Minister Gaston Browne took his oath for a fourth straight term. Attorney General Steadroy Cutie Benjamin also took his oath. As a result, the new government officially began its transition process.
Notably, the ABLP won a strong mandate in Thursday’s general election. The party captured 15 of 17 parliamentary seats. Therefore, it strengthened its control of government for more than a decade. In addition, the result confirmed Browne as the country’s longest-serving modern political leader.
In contrast, voters gave the United Progressive Party only one seat. Meanwhile, the Barbuda People’s Movement kept its seat on the sister island. Consequently, the ABLP now holds a dominant position in Parliament.
Additionally, the government will use the upcoming swearing-in to confirm its Cabinet. This team will lead the next term in office. Moreover, the event follows a clear and decisive election outcome. Therefore, focus now shifts to leadership roles and ministerial duties.
During Friday’s ceremony, Governor-General Sir Rodney Williams spoke about the results. He called the outcome a historic mandate. He also warned that voters now expect strong performance. As a result, the new administration faces high expectations.
In response, Prime Minister Browne promised stronger effort from his government. He pledged accountability and unity in leadership. In addition, he said his team will focus on improving living standards. Therefore, he set clear priorities for the new term.
Meanwhile, the government has not yet released the full Cabinet list. However, political attention continues to grow around upcoming appointments. In addition, observers expect key policy announcements after the swearing-in.
Finally, Tuesday’s ceremony at AUA will complete the transition. It will move the ABLP from election victory into full governance. Ministers will receive their portfolios during the event. Consequently, the new administration will fully take shape and begin work.
