Officials have assured the public that Antigua and Barbuda will not experience a nationwide lockdown during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), scheduled for November 1–4, 2026. Foreign Affairs Minister E. P. Chet Greene said security restrictions will be limited to specific locations and periods.

In St. John’s, temporary restrictions are expected around the opening ceremony on November 3, when a designated security perimeter will affect pedestrian and vehicle movement. Businesses west of Corn Alley, including those serving cruise ship passengers, are expected to continue operating.

The East Bus Station is expected to be affected from early morning until approximately 1:30 p.m. on November 3. Officials also expect major supermarkets, the public market and the West Bus Station to operate normally throughout the summit.

Separate security arrangements will be implemented for an interfaith service on November 1, with restrictions affecting parts of northern St. John’s, including Friar’s Hill Road. Authorities say the restrictions will be lifted as soon as the events conclude.
