Antigua and Barbuda is pushing back against proposed changes to how the International Whaling Commission conducts its meetings and decisions.

The government says any adjustment to the commission’s quorum requirements should be carefully considered to ensure smaller countries and developing states continue to have a meaningful voice.

Antigua and Barbuda has suggested creating a working group to examine the issue and bring together representatives from small island developing states, coastal nations and other regions.

The country has also indicated its willingness to help lead the proposed discussions as the commission considers changes to its procedures.
