Victory Centre Appeals for Help After Repeated Break-Ins
Victory Centre School for Children with Special Needs is appealing to the public for help after a series of break-ins, attempted robberies and thefts continued despite efforts to improve security at the school.
The school said an air conditioner and microwave were stolen last year. Although replacement items were purchased with donations and school savings, they were reportedly taken again about a week later. Support from fundraisers, parents, the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and businesses later helped fund security cameras and burglar bars.
The latest incident occurred shortly after 6 a.m., when security footage reportedly captured an individual pulling out lettuce from the school’s hydroponics project before it was ready for harvest. The incident came just one day after the school celebrated the project’s handover.
School officials said the crops represented more than food for students, providing opportunities to develop practical skills, build confidence and work towards greater independence. Students had hoped to sell their produce to help fund social activities.
Victory Centre is asking anyone who recognises the individual shown in the footage or has information about the incidents to contact the nearest police station. Members of the public are advised not to confront anyone suspected of being involved.
