Antigua and Barbuda has defended its approach to international partnerships as discussions continue with the United States on immigration matters and concerns surrounding Chinese-linked technology.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has maintained that the country’s relationship with China is based on development and economic cooperation, while also emphasizing the importance of strong ties with the United States.

Recent discussions have included a proposed agreement involving third-country nationals and a US-backed grant intended to support changes to information technology systems at the nation’s main port. US officials have reportedly expressed concerns about technology previously installed as part of Chinese-funded infrastructure projects.

Government officials say Antigua and Barbuda will continue pursuing policies that serve its national interests while maintaining constructive relationships with both global powers.
