Antigua Plans New Projects to Strengthen Food Security

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has outlined several projects intended to strengthen Antigua and Barbuda’s food supply, improve agricultural production and reduce the country’s reliance on imported goods.

The proposed initiatives include expanded storage facilities to help preserve agricultural produce and an abattoir to support the local livestock industry. Better storage and processing capacity could help farmers manage their output and supply the local market more consistently.

Water infrastructure is also part of the plans, as reliable access to water remains important for agricultural production. The projects are intended to address practical challenges affecting local food production and strengthen the country’s ability to meet domestic demand.

The plans form part of wider efforts to build greater resilience in the food supply system and support the development of agriculture in Antigua and Barbuda.
