Researchers Discover Fossil Evidence of Giant, 60-foot Octopuses

Scientists have discovered evidence of a giant octopus-like creature that lived during the time of the dinosaurs, offering new insight into marine life in the Cretaceous period. The findings suggest that these intelligent sea animals may have evolved much earlier than previously believed.

The research is based on fossil evidence that points to a large cephalopod inhabiting ancient oceans millions of years ago. While soft-bodied creatures like octopuses rarely fossilise, scientists were able to identify traces that indicate their presence and size.

Researchers say the discovery challenges earlier assumptions about when complex marine species developed. It also highlights the possibility that ancient oceans were home to a wider range of advanced life forms than once thought.

The study adds to growing knowledge about prehistoric ecosystems and the evolution of marine animals, showing that octopus-like creatures may have played a role in ocean life during the age of dinosaurs.
