Nearly one month after two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela, the official death toll has risen to 5,346. Authorities confirmed on Tuesday that the number of fatalities increased by 68 from the previous day, while the number of injured remained at 16,740.

The 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes hit northern Venezuela on June 24, causing widespread destruction across several communities. The coastal state of La Guaira, located just outside the capital, Caracas, was among the hardest-hit areas. Since the disaster, officials have recorded 1,405 aftershocks, making recovery efforts more difficult and raising concerns for residents living in damaged buildings.

Although the government has not released an official figure for those still missing, the United Nations estimates that as many as 50,000 people could remain unaccounted for beneath the rubble or in areas that are still difficult to access. Search and rescue teams continue working in affected communities while humanitarian agencies provide support to survivors.

The earthquakes have also forced more than 23,000 people from their homes. Temporary shelters have been established in stadiums, public spaces, and other emergency locations to accommodate displaced families. Officials say many residents are still waiting for permanent housing as they recover from the devastation.

Interim President Delcy Rodríguez announced that about 200 families who lost their homes will be relocated to an apartment complex in Caracas. She also pledged government support to build more than 4,000 homes for those affected by the disaster as part of the country’s long-term recovery plan.

According to official figures, the earthquakes damaged more than 850 buildings, while 190 structures collapsed completely. The scale of the destruction has placed significant pressure on emergency services and reconstruction efforts. Authorities say they remain focused on providing shelter, restoring essential services, and supporting families as recovery operations continue in the weeks ahead.
