US Lawyers Seek Bank Records Linked to Alfa Nero Sale
A New York law firm and one of its partners are seeking access to US banking records involving Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne, his wife, his son and other individuals. According to OffshoreAlert, the request is intended to trace funds connected to the government’s US$40 million sale of the superyacht Alfa Nero.
The legal request is connected to a defamation lawsuit filed by Browne against the lawyers. The yacht, which was reportedly valued at as much as US$105 million, has been at the centre of controversy surrounding its sale.
The application seeks records from US financial institutions, including the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, HSBC Bank USA and The Clearing House Payments Company. The information is being sought for use in the ongoing legal dispute.
The request for banking records does not, by itself, establish wrongdoing by the individuals named. The matter concerns a legal effort to obtain financial information in connection with the defamation case.
