Grenada Parliament Set for Dissolution Friday
Grenada Parliament to Be Dissolved Friday
Grenada is moving closer to its next general election, with Parliament set for dissolution on Friday, October 2.
Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell confirmed the planned move and urged Grenadians who have not registered to vote to complete the process this week.
Mitchell said Friday will mark the final day for voter registration before Parliament dissolves. He explained that the Governor-General, Cécile La Grenade, will issue the writ for the election after the dissolution.
The Prime Minister encouraged eligible Grenadians to register before the deadline.
Political activity has also increased across Grenada as parties prepare for the upcoming election. The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has held a series of mini-rallies across mainland Grenada.
The NDC plans to hold a major rally in St. Mark on Sunday, October 4. The party expects to officially launch its general election campaign and present its candidates at the event.
Mitchell has also said Grenadians will learn the official election date on October 4. He previously told supporters that the “conch shell” would blow on that date.
The Prime Minister said his administration has spent the past four years preparing for the election. He pointed to the government’s record and said it has worked to remain accessible and accountable.
“We’ve tried to deliver on the things in our mandate,” Mitchell said.
He added that it is now time for the government to return to the people and seek their validation.
The upcoming election will mark another stage in Grenada’s political process. Parties are increasing their activities as the country approaches the dissolution of Parliament.
For Grenadians who still need to register, Mitchell has stressed the importance of completing the process before Friday.
The dissolution will also begin the formal process leading toward the next general election. Under Grenada’s constitutional framework, an election must take place within three months after Parliament dissolves.
The NDC’s October 4 event in St. Mark will give the party an opportunity to present its candidates and formally begin its election campaign.
As Grenada prepares for the next stage, voters will soon know when they will return to the polls. The official election date is expected to be announced on October 4.
Until then, political parties continue preparing while eligible voters have only a short time left to complete registration.
