City South Candidate Records Vandalism of Campaign Materials
Video evidence handed to police
City South UPP candidate Adrian Williams says he caught a vandal on camera. Moreover, he has already shared the video with police. He also contacted the Commissioner of Police directly.
Williams said the footage shows a person damaging his campaign billboards. This happened in the Briggins area. As a result, he expects police action soon.
He used hidden cameras to capture the incident. These cameras were shaped like stones and turtles. Therefore, they were designed to avoid detection.
“I was able to pick up from my camera the person that committed the act,” he said. He added that the police will pick up the suspect. In addition, he plans to press charges.
Wider campaign damage concerns
Williams said several campaign materials have been destroyed nationwide. He described it as a growing problem. Moreover, he said his party has been heavily affected.
He said UPP candidates have lost multiple billboards. In some cases, entire structures were removed. For example, he cited damaged frames and plywood.
Williams also highlighted the cost. He said each billboard can cost over $2,000. Therefore, replacements are expensive for candidates.
He mentioned colleague Emanuel Peters as an example. In that case, he said the entire billboard was removed. This included wood, canvas, and support structures.
Claims of targeting and political optics
Williams said the damage appears focused on UPP candidates. In contrast, he said ABLP billboards nearby were untouched.
“And not one of them has been troubled,” he said. However, he stopped short of making direct accusations. Still, he said the situation raises concerns.
Election campaign continues
Despite the incident, Williams said his campaign will continue. He said it will not affect his efforts before the April 30 election. Moreover, he said he remains calm.
He added that voters understand representation. Therefore, he believes they will make informed decisions.
“I’m quite calm about it,” he said. He also said he feels a strong sense of peace during the process.
Call to voters and police action
Williams urged residents to prepare for voting. He encouraged them to have voter ID cards ready. In addition, he reminded them of the upcoming election date.
Police have warned that vandalism of campaign materials will lead to charges. Williams said he expects enforcement soon. He also confirmed he has submitted video evidence.
