Four Antiguan Cricketers Head to UK Clubs

Four

Four Antiguan and Barbudan cricketers have arrived in the United Kingdom. They join the seventh cohort of the Antigua Exchange programme.

The Antigua and Barbuda High Commission in the United Kingdom leads the initiative. Her Excellency Karen-Mae Hill developed the programme with Keith and Chloe Williams of Keyworth Cricket Club in Nottingham.

The 2026 cohort includes Michael Greaves, Hilroy Andrew, Mekaili Tonge, and Jedidiah Martin.

Greaves and Hilroy Andrew will represent Grantham Cricket Club. Mekaili Tonge will play for Harrow St Mary’s Cricket Club. Jedidiah Martin will join Belvoir Cricket Club.

The players will spend four months in the United Kingdom. During this period, they will play competitive club cricket and gain international exposure.

Several past participants have gone on to secure paid contracts with UK clubs. Some also return later as overseas players.

Selectors Winston Benjamin, Hugh Smith, and Essan Warner chose the players. They continue to guide talent development in Antigua and Barbuda.

Before departure, the players attended a pre-departure orientation. It was organised by Dr Colin Greene and Aldo McCoy.

The session focused on discipline, conduct, cultural awareness, and professionalism. It also prepared the players for life and cricket in the United Kingdom.

High Commissioner Karen-Mae Hill said the programme opens doors for young athletes. She added that it exposes them to international standards and responsibility.

She also said representing Antigua and Barbuda overseas carries pride and duty. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to support sport as a tool for cultural exchange.

The High Commission thanked donors Ophir and Ann Chapman-Daniel for their support. Their contribution helps make the 2026 programme possible.

The exchange programme strengthens ties between Antigua and Barbuda and the United Kingdom. It also promotes youth development through sport and cultural exchange.

The High Commission wished the four players success as they begin their four-month journey.
