Eli Fuller Featured on BBC Podcast recounting Hurricane Luis
The BBC World Service has revisited the devastation caused by Hurricane Luis in Antigua through an episode of its Witness History podcast.
The programme features Antiguan resident Eli Fuller, who recounts his experience of the powerful Category 4 hurricane that struck the island on September 4, 1995. The storm claimed lives and destroyed an estimated three-quarters of the country’s homes, leaving widespread damage across Antigua.
Authorities at the time said the hurricane set Antigua’s development back by nearly a decade, making it one of the most destructive natural disasters in the nation’s history.
The podcast highlights both the devastation caused by Hurricane Luis and the resilience shown by Antiguans during the recovery process.
