Sixteen families in Woodford Hill, Dominica, are set to receive keys to new three-bedroom homes as the government continues its national housing programme.

The homes are designed to provide safe and resilient housing for families across the island. The handover ceremony is scheduled for Friday, September 11, 2026, at 3:30 p.m.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development Melissa Poponne-Skerrit announced the ceremony and invited members of the public to attend the Welcome Home event.

The government has been providing modern homes to communities across Dominica. Most recently, 11 homes were handed over to families in the Canefield East community.

The national housing programme aims to provide more than 215 modern and resilient homes across nine communities. Officials say the programme will also expand beyond the construction of new houses.

The government plans to provide support for home repairs and renovations. It will also focus on retrofits for vulnerable households. Families with the greatest need will receive priority for this support.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced the Woodford Hill handover during a September 9 press conference. He confirmed that the families will receive three-bedroom homes.

The housing programme forms part of the government’s wider national resilience framework. Officials say the government aims to provide 5,000 housing solutions for vulnerable families.

The Woodford Hill handover marks another step toward that goal. The government also plans to hand over more homes to families in communities across Dominica.

The programme is therefore focused not only on providing new homes but also on helping vulnerable households improve and strengthen their existing homes.
