International Partners Assist with CHOGM Security

Antigua and Barbuda is working with international and regional partners to strengthen security arrangements ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in November. Foreign Affairs Minister E. P. Chet Greene confirmed that Canada, the United Kingdom, Jamaica and the Regional Security System are assisting with preparations.

The support is intended to reinforce the work of local security agencies as the country prepares to welcome Commonwealth leaders, delegates and other visitors for the high-level meeting.

During a public town hall discussion, Greene addressed concerns about crime and public safety while outlining the additional measures being put in place for the summit.Local police and defence personnel are also involved in planning, training and security exercises. The minister expressed hope that the experience and skills gained during the preparations would provide benefits for national security beyond the CHOGM period.
