Rescuers Pull Man Alive Eight Days After Venezuela Quakes

Rescuers

Rescuers made an incredible discovery in Venezuela after they found a 43-year-old man alive beneath a collapsed building eight days after the twin earthquakes struck on June 24. Hernan Gil, a security guard, survived under the rubble of a seven-story building in Catia La Mar. The rescue brought cheers from emergency crews who had worked for days to reach him. His survival has given many people hope during one of the country’s worst disasters.

Rescuers from Venezuela, Chile, the United States, Portugal, Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Mexico joined forces to save Gil. They worked day and night for three days to reach him safely. The damaged building remained unstable, so every step required extreme care. Rescue workers avoided actions that could trigger another collapse. Chilean team leader Cristian Vera said finding Gil’s exact location was difficult. Before the rescue, Gil’s wife, Gusbimar Gonzalez, called his survival a miracle. She also praised the international teams for working together to save her husband.

Rescuers have found only a few survivors since the earthquakes. Earlier this week, they pulled a three-year-old boy alive from the rubble six days after the disaster. Despite these rescues, hope is fading for many families still waiting for news. Search crews have inspected most collapsed buildings in La Guaira, one of the hardest-hit areas. Many structures now carry a mark showing that workers found no signs of life. Rescue teams continue searching places where they still believe someone could survive.

Rescuers continue their work as Venezuela responds to the disaster’s growing impact. Officials say 2,295 people have died, and more than 11,000 have suffered injuries. Nearly 13,000 people have also lost their homes. Emergency crews remain focused on rescue efforts while communities begin the long recovery process. Gil’s rescue shows that hope can survive even after many days beneath the rubble. It also highlights the value of teamwork as countries joined together to save one life.
