Four CARICOM Nationals Face US Citizenship Revocation
Four CARICOM nationals are now facing legal action that could cost them their US citizenship. The US Department of Justice says the group includes one person from Trinidad and Tobago, two from Jamaica, and one from Haiti.
US officials claim the four men committed serious crimes before they became US citizens. They also say the men hid key facts or gave false answers during the citizenship process.
Ronnie Price of Trinidad and Tobago became a US citizen in 2016. Prosecutors say he committed a crime involving a minor before gaining citizenship. They allege he failed to reveal that information during his application.
Jamaican nationals Rodger George Gurdon and Talman Harris also face denaturalization cases. Authorities say Gurdon took part in drug trafficking and a scheme involving stolen medical products. They say Harris helped run a stock fraud scheme that caused millions of dollars in losses.
Jean Claude Alfred of Haiti became a US citizen in 1994. Prosecutors say he sexually abused his daughter before and during his citizenship application. They claim he hid that conduct while seeking citizenship.
The Justice Department argues that all four men failed to meet the good moral character standard required for citizenship. Officials also say they obtained citizenship through false statements or by hiding important facts.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said US citizenship is a privilege. He said authorities will continue to investigate people who abuse the naturalization system and break the law.
