Antigua Pushes for Lower Medicine Costs
Antigua and Barbuda is working with other Eastern Caribbean countries to make medicines and essential medical supplies more affordable and easier to obtain.Health Minister Michael Joseph and Permanent Secretary Stacey Gregg-Paige are representing the country at a meeting of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Pooled Procurement Services.
The initiative allows participating countries to combine their purchasing needs rather than negotiate with international suppliers individually. By buying together, member states can seek better prices while maintaining medicine quality and safety standards.
The discussions also focus on making supply chains more dependable and reducing the risk of shortages that could affect healthcare services.
