Browne Extends Olive Branch, Calls for National Unity

Browne

Browne extended an olive branch to opponents after his election victory. He urged unity, inclusion, and cooperation. Moreover, he signaled a softer tone for his new term.

Gaston Browne spoke on the “Browne and Browne Show” on Point FM. He addressed the nation following his party’s strong election win. The result gave his party 15 of 17 parliamentary seats.

First, Browne said his government will remain inclusive. He stressed that no group will be excluded. In addition, he said national progress requires broad participation.

“The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party will remain inclusive,” he said. “Everyone will have a seat at the table.”

Furthermore, he called for unity across political lines. He said the country must move forward together. Therefore, he encouraged cooperation over division.

“We want a more united country,” he said. “Everyone must put their shoulders to the plough.”

At the same time, Browne urged opposition supporters to stay engaged. He said political defeat should not mean withdrawal from national life. Instead, he encouraged continued contribution.

He explained that skills and ideas remain valuable. Moreover, he said development depends on everyone, not only government supporters.

“They should not feel excluded,” he said. “They can still contribute.”

In addition, Browne shared personal experience. He said he built over 100 homes while in opposition. As a result, he used it as an example of non-government contribution.

“That was my contribution to nation-building,” he said.

Next, he encouraged private sector involvement. He said economic participation should not depend on political loyalty. Therefore, he urged entrepreneurs and professionals to invest and build.

“Use your skills and resources,” he said. “Help build the country.”

Moreover, he called for reconciliation in politics. He said divisions should not last forever. Instead, he promoted cooperation and mutual respect.

“Today’s brother is tomorrow’s comrade,” he said.

Finally, Browne said his new term will focus on performance. He also rejected divisive political rhetoric. In addition, he said unity is essential for future challenges.

“I see no need for rancour,” he said. “Unity must guide us forward.”

Overall, Browne emphasized inclusion and shared national responsibility.
