Antigua to Launch Citizens’ Portal in 2026 for Public Review of Government Contracts

Antigua

Prime Minister Announces New Digital Initiative

Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne says his government will launch a public “citizens’ portal” in 2026. This platform will allow citizens to see every government purchase and contract. Moreover, it is part of a broader governance reform effort following recent controversies over vehicle acquisitions by state entities.

Portal to Enhance Oversight

Speaking on the Browne and Browne Show, the Prime Minister explained that the portal will give citizens direct oversight of state spending. He said, “All purchases and contracts will be on that portal so anybody can examine them.” In addition, the platform will strengthen accountability across all government departments.

Curbing Misuse of Resources

Browne linked the portal to concerns from the recent vehicle purchase dispute. He emphasized that the initiative will prevent misuse of public funds. For example, situations where individuals resisted accountability measures will be easier to track. Consequently, the portal will promote transparency and reduce the risk of abuse.

Modernizing Procurement

The Prime Minister also highlighted broader governance reforms. He stressed that public officials must accept stronger controls to protect state resources. The goal, he said, is to ensure government funds are used “exclusively for the empowerment of our people, especially the poor and vulnerable.” Furthermore, the administration is actively addressing gaps in current systems.

Portal as Central Feature

The new citizens’ portal will be a key component of a modernized procurement framework. Officials expect it to go live in 2026. Meanwhile, the government continues to enhance transparency, compliance, and reporting mechanisms. In short, citizens will soon have easy access to vital financial information.

Public Engagement and Accountability

Finally, the Prime Minister emphasized that this initiative will strengthen the relationship between the government and the public. By enabling direct access to contracts and purchases, citizens can monitor spending and promote accountability. Therefore, the portal represents a major step forward for transparency in Antigua and Barbuda.
