Government signals willingness to terminate the CIP

Antigua and Barbuda has indicated that it is prepared to end its Citizenship by Investment Programme (CIP) as part of ongoing discussions with the European Union.

The government’s position comes amid concerns about the programme’s impact on the country’s access to visa-free travel within the Schengen Area.Prime Minister Gaston Browne has proposed a gradual end to the programme by 2030, subject to the EU’s agreement and support for the transition.

The proposal would allow time to assess the economic and social implications of ending the CIP, including its effects on government revenue, investment and employment.
