21 POUNDS OF CANNABIS SEIZED AT DEEP WATER HARBOUR

St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, Friday, September 25, 2026

The police and Customs Enforcement Unit have seized 21 pounds of cannabis during a joint drug interdiction operation at the Deep Water Harbour Cargo Shed.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23, officers from the Narcotics Department and Customs Enforcement personnel, conducted an interdiction exercise at the main seaport cargo facility.

During the operation, officers searched a brown E-Container cardboard box containing food items. A further search uncovered another cardboard box concealed among the items, containing 21 vacuum-sealed packages of vegetable material resembling cannabis.
The packages were seized and transported to Police Headquarters for further investigation.

The substance was subsequently weighed and amounted to approximately 21 pounds, with an estimated street value of EC$126,000.
Investigations into the discovery are continuing.
