Richard Lewis, MP for St. John’s Rural West, says he spends his own money to fix local infrastructure. According to him, government inaction forces him to step in.

For example, he repaired public facilities, patched roads, and improved drainage using personal funds. Moreover, he filled gaps that authorities neglected.

He explained, “One time I bought large buckets of sealants to fix the clinic roof. That’s not my job. But I had to act.”

Additionally, Lewis sometimes provides medical supplies at community clinics. Therefore, residents can access essential care when government support is absent.

Beyond healthcare, he patched roads in many areas, spending tens of thousands of dollars of his own money. He emphasized, “These repairs are my responsibility, not the government’s.”

Similarly, Lewis fixed drainage and maintained public lands. He added, “I advocate for my people, but I also use personal resources to get things done.”

Furthermore, he said these efforts reflect longstanding neglect in his constituency. As a result, he cannot wait for authorities to act.

Contrasting himself with government MPs, Lewis explained that he operates with limited resources. He said, “I receive $2,000, yet I invest much more personally to help my constituents.”

Moreover, he insisted that elected officials with state resources must handle infrastructure. Otherwise, residents will continue depending on private interventions.
