More than $300,000 worth of cannabis was intercepted at V.C. Bird International Airport last week. The major drug bust followed a joint law enforcement operation.

Firstly, officers acted on intelligence and moved quickly. The operation took place on Friday, March 20. It happened at the airport’s Customs Cargo Shed.

Moreover, teams from several units worked together. These included the Narcotics Department, K-9 Unit, and Customs Enforcement Unit. As a result, officers searched multiple cardboard boxes on site.

During the search, officers found suspicious packages. In total, they discovered 52 vacuum-sealed parcels. Each package contained plant material resembling cannabis.

Additionally, the drugs were hidden carefully. Reports say they were packed inside nine brown boxes. However, trained officers and K-9 teams detected them.

Authorities later confirmed the weight. The packages totaled 52 pounds. Meanwhile, the estimated street value reached EC $312,000.

Following the discovery, officers seized all items. They then transported the packages to Police Headquarters. There, investigators began further examination.

At the same time, police detained a suspect. A 61-year-old man from Barnes Hill was taken in for questioning. However, he was later released.

Sources say the investigation is still ongoing. Therefore, officers continue to gather evidence. They also aim to identify other possible suspects.

Furthermore, officials stressed the importance of teamwork. They noted that joint operations improve success rates. In addition, they help disrupt drug trafficking networks.

This seizure highlights ongoing enforcement efforts. Authorities remain focused on stopping illegal drugs. They continue to monitor cargo and passenger activity.

In conclusion, the operation dealt a strong blow to drug smuggling. Even so, officials warn that traffickers remain active. As a result, law enforcement stays alert and prepared.
