Delta Cancels Caribbean Flights After Venezuela Strikes

Delta

Delta Air Lines said it began canceling flights early Saturday morning. The FAA imposed airspace closures affecting parts of the Caribbean.

The airline issued a travel waiver for customers traveling to or from 13 affected airports between Jan. 3 and Jan. 6. Eligible passengers can change itineraries without extra fees.

According to Delta, impacted airports include ANU, AUA, BGI, BON, CUR, GND, SJU, SKB, STT, STX, SVD, SXM, and UVF.

In addition, the FAA imposed temporary airspace restrictions affecting Puerto Rico, including Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan. The restrictions cite security concerns linked to U.S. military activity in Venezuela.

AP reported that most commercial flights by U.S. airlines have been suspended or canceled under the restriction.

However, foreign airlines and military aircraft are not affected. Passengers were urged to check with their airline before traveling.

Delta customers with bookings during the affected period will receive notifications from the airline with instructions to modify reservations.

Moreover, travelers can monitor flight status through the Fly Delta app or on Delta.com. Itineraries can also be updated directly online.

“As cancellations are processed, customers will receive notifications via the Fly Delta app and the contact information listed in their reservation,” the airline said.

Delta emphasized that its teams are monitoring the situation closely. They said the safety and security of customers and employees remain top priorities.

Furthermore, the FAA earlier announced the temporary airspace restrictions. These were tied to the ongoing security situation related to U.S. military activity in Venezuela.

The restrictions have prompted widespread flight disruptions across the Caribbean.

Overall, Delta continues to provide updates and support for affected travelers. The airline encourages passengers to stay informed through official channels.
