Antigua Consulate in New York Engages Youth Diaspora
Antigua and Barbuda is strengthening ties with its younger diaspora in the United States. A new initiative is now underway.
The Consulate General of Antigua and Barbuda in New York is leading the effort. It aims to connect young nationals with their roots.
Since independence in 1981, the office has served diaspora needs. However, officials believe more engagement is needed. Therefore, new strategies now focus on youth.
Walton Webson stressed the importance of inclusion. He said young voices must be heard and valued.
Moreover, he highlighted the need to preserve cultural identity. This remains vital for future generations living abroad.
As a result, the Consulate is launching a Diaspora Networking Mixer. The event targets young Antiguans and Barbudans in the Northeast.
It will take place on Wednesday, March 25, in New York. The venue is Jumeika Grand Restaurant on Lexington Avenue. Activities will run from 6 to 9 pm.
In addition, the event will feature brief presentations and networking. Organisers hope to spark meaningful dialogue among attendees.
Notably, Claude Lewis will attend. He is a well-known chef with Antiguan and Barbudan roots.
Furthermore, Dean Fenton will also be present. His participation adds a tourism perspective to discussions.
Through this event, the Consulate hopes to build stronger relationships. It also aims to better understand youth needs and ideas.
At the same time, officials want to expand their diaspora database. This will help identify talent and skills within the community.
Consequently, the government can engage young people more effectively. Their input can support national development goals.
Importantly, the initiative encourages long-term involvement. It seeks to keep younger generations connected to their heritage.
In conclusion, this outreach marks a key step forward. It reflects a growing focus on youth engagement. Ultimately, it aims to strengthen national identity beyond borders.
