Dr Terrance Drew has confirmed he suffered a stroke and is recovering well after discharge from a U.S. hospital.

Medical staff admitted Drew, 49, to a Martinique hospital on August 30 after he felt nausea, dizziness, and balance problems. Medical staff flew Drew to Florida on September 2 for further medical evaluation.

In an eight-minute broadcast on Sunday, the St. Kitts and Nevis prime minister confirmed that medical tests showed he had suffered a stroke caused by a dissection of the vertebral artery, which is located at the back of the brain.

Drew said the effects of the stroke have been well managed. He reported that he can move all his limbs, speak well and maintain his coordination and mental abilities.

The St. Kitts prime minister has since left the hospital in Florida and is continuing his recovery through rehabilitation. He said his occupational therapy and other exercises are going extremely well.

Drew also thanked God. He thanked medical professionals and the public who prayed for him and sent messages of support during his illness.

He said he is doing much better mentally, psychologically and physically than his condition might suggest.

The St. Kitts and Nevis leader did not provide a specific date for his return to his full duties. However, his update focused on his continued rehabilitation and improving health.

Drew’s confirmation provides clarity following his hospitalization in Martinique and subsequent transfer to the United States for further care.

The prime minister remains focused on his recovery as he continues rehabilitation. He expressed gratitude for the support he has received and said his progress has been encouraging.
