A&B radiology services are making solid progress toward digital and efficient systems. Dr Destine Reid shared this update following a recent international meeting.

First, Dr Reid serves as a senior radiology official at Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre. She attended a week-long coordination meeting in Vienna. The meeting was hosted by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

In addition, the session focused on diagnostic radiography. Representatives from around 10 Caribbean countries took part. As a result, regional cooperation formed a key theme.

Dr Reid said Antigua and Barbuda is moving in the right direction. She noted progress in digital imaging systems. However, she also said further improvement is still needed.

Moreover, she explained that major upgrades have already taken place. For example, X-ray and mammography systems are now fully digital. Therefore, patient imaging has become more efficient.

In addition, she highlighted the use of a working PACS system. This system supports tele-radiography and remote reporting. As a result, doctors can review images from off island locations.

Furthermore, radiologists can still issue reports while abroad. This improves speed and flexibility in care delivery. It also strengthens continuity of medical services.

Dr Reid also pointed to improved networking systems. These systems allow consultation with external specialists. Therefore, clinical decisions benefit from wider expert input.

In turn, this improves diagnostic accuracy. It also supports better patient outcomes. As a result, healthcare teams gain stronger support tools.

Meanwhile, the IAEA meeting focused on regional development. It emphasized training for medical staff. In addition, it highlighted quality assurance systems.

Moreover, participants discussed coordinated growth of radiology services. The goal is to improve patient care across the Caribbean. It also aims to strengthen diagnostic standards.

Dr Reid said Antigua and Barbuda is aligned with these goals. She described local services as steadily advancing. At the same time, she encouraged continued improvement.
