Americans Found Guilty in Dominica Murders

Dominica murders were back in court on Tuesday as a jury found two American men guilty of killing Canadian businessman Daniel Langlois and his longtime partner, Dominique Marchand. The verdict came after several hours of deliberation by a nine-member mixed jury.

The jury convicted 58-year-old Jonathan Lehrer and 63-year-old Robert Snider Jr. Prosecutors said the two men killed Langlois and Marchand between November 29 and December 2, 2023. Langlois owned Echo Resort and founded the software company Softimage. Marchand, 58, was his longtime partner.

The couple disappeared before authorities found their bodies on December 1, 2023. Investigators discovered the charred remains inside a burned-out vehicle near Gallion in southern Dominica. The case quickly drew attention because of the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

During the trial, prosecutors argued that the Dominica murders resulted from a long-running legal dispute. The disagreement involved access rights to a public road that crossed the Bois Cotlette property. Prosecutors told the court that the dispute between Lehrer and Langlois escalated and led to the killings.

The prosecution maintained that both men were responsible for the deaths of Langlois and Marchand. The jury considered the evidence before reaching its decision on Tuesday. After several hours of deliberation, jurors returned guilty verdicts against both Lehrer and Snider.

The guilty verdict marks a major step in the Dominica murders case. It brings the criminal proceedings closer to a conclusion nearly three years after the deaths of the Canadian businessman and his partner. Their disappearance and the discovery of their burned-out vehicle shocked many across the region and abroad.
