UN warns Cuba sanctions are worsening living conditions.

UN

Cuba sanctions are causing serious hardship across the island, according to the United Nations. The UN is now calling on the United States to remove the measures immediately.

UN human rights chief Volker Türk said recent restrictions have made daily life much harder for many Cubans. He said fuel shortages and tighter economic measures are affecting access to food, medicine, and other basic supplies.

The UN reported that many areas are facing long power outages. Some communities are without electricity for more than 20 hours each day. Hospitals are also struggling with shortages of essential medicines and medical equipment.

The organization said children and other vulnerable groups are being hit the hardest. It pointed to reports showing worsening health conditions and growing pressure on the healthcare system.

Food production has also declined, while the cost of basic goods has increased. As a result, many families are finding it harder to meet their daily needs.

The United States has maintained an embargo on Cuba for decades. However, the UN argues that the latest measures are worsening living conditions and should be lifted without delay.
