US investigators say a missile strike that hit a school in Minab may have resulted from a targeting error. The preliminary inquiry links the attack to US military planning.

The investigation indicates officers at United States Central Command prepared the strike coordinates. However, the coordinates came from obsolete information.

Officials say the data originated from the Defense Intelligence Agency.

Because of this error, the missile hit the school building.

Iranian authorities quickly blamed the United States. They released video footage and fragments of missile parts after the attack.

Investigators also reviewed satellite images of the area. These images show the school separated from nearby military buildings.

The site once formed part of a larger complex used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. However, officials say the school had remained clearly marked as an educational facility for years.

Murals, playground areas, and sports fields were visible from above. These features appeared in satellite images before the strike.

Missile Identification

Videos shared online show the moment a missile struck the area. Analysts verified several of those clips.

Researchers from Bellingcat studied the footage. They matched buildings and roads with satellite imagery.

Their analysis confirmed the strike occurred near the school and the nearby military compound.

Experts also identified the weapon used in the attack. They believe it was a Tomahawk missile.

Munitions specialists say the weapon strongly indicates a US strike.

Political Dispute Continues

Meanwhile, the administration of Donald Trump has disputed the claims.

Trump said Iran carried out the school attack. However, he did not present evidence to support that claim.

US military officials have taken a more cautious approach. The Pentagon says the incident remains under investigation.

For now, the inquiry continues as officials review intelligence and targeting decisions linked to the deadly strike.
