China’s Ambassador to Antigua and Barbuda, Jiang Wei, hosted youth parliamentarians from five Caribbean territories at a cultural exchange reception in St. John’s on Tuesday evening. The representatives from Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Anguilla, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines were in the country for a regional youth parliament meeting.

The reception included activities celebrating Chinese culture, including an opportunity for participants to write Chinese characters on a China and Caribbean Friendship Wall. Ambassador Jiang encouraged young people to build understanding through direct conversations, respect cultural differences and identify common ground.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Osbert Frederick commended the parliamentarians for their contributions to debates earlier that day. He encouraged them to remain focused as they prepare for future leadership roles in their respective countries.

Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle and Senators Maleika Parker and Jonathan Whenner also attended the reception.
