Foreign Troops to Join CHOGM Security Preparations

The Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force has warned residents to expect increased military activity across the country as preparations intensify for the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

In an advisory issued on October 16, the Defence Force said visiting foreign troops would join local personnel in security exercises and operations ahead of the summit, scheduled for November 1–4.

Residents may notice uniformed soldiers, military vehicles and other operational activity in different areas. Some exercises could also lead to temporary disruptions or restrictions on movement.

The Defence Force is asking the public to remain calm, be patient and follow instructions from authorised security personnel. Officials said the coordinated preparations are intended to protect residents and visiting delegations during the international meeting.

The advisory did not identify all countries providing personnel or specify where the exercises would take place.
