US sanctions on Cuba have expanded with new measures targeting President Miguel Díaz-Canel, members of his family, and relatives of former President Raúl Castro. The latest actions also target Cuba’s Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and several government-linked entities.

The sanctions affect Díaz-Canel, his wife, and his stepson. They also target Alejandro Castro Espín, the son of Raúl Castro, and Raúl Alejandro Castro Calis. The Trump administration says the measures form part of its effort to increase pressure on Cuba’s government.

Cuban leaders strongly criticized the decision. Díaz-Canel accused Washington of increasing tensions between the two countries. Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez described the sanctions as hostile and said Cuba would respond with unity and determination.

The announcement comes as Cuba faces a severe economic crisis. The country continues to struggle with fuel shortages, long power outages, and limited supplies of food and medicine. International officials have also warned that the hurricane season could worsen humanitarian conditions on the island.
