Deadly Explosion Kills Dozens in Myanmar
Myanmar Explosion Kills More Than 45 Near China Border
A deadly Myanmar explosion has killed more than 45 people and injured dozens in northern Shan State. The blast hit Kaungtup village in Namhkam township on Sunday, near the Chinese border.
Rescue workers said they recovered at least 46 bodies, including six children. More than 70 injured people were taken to hospital. Teams continued searching through damaged buildings during the day.
The Myanmar explosion happened at a building believed to store explosives used for mining. Officials said the blast likely started at this storage site. The explosion sent debris across the village and caused widespread destruction.
Local reports said the Ta’ang National Liberation Army controls the area. The group said it stored gelignite for mining and quarry work. It also confirmed that investigators are now trying to find the exact cause of the blast.
The Myanmar explosion damaged more than 100 homes. Buildings collapsed in several areas of the village. Thick smoke covered the site soon after the blast. Local media shared images showing heavy damage and scattered debris.
Emergency teams moved quickly to help survivors. Medical staff treated the injured at nearby hospitals. Relief workers also provided shelter and basic supplies to families who lost their homes.
Experts warned about the dangers of storing mining explosives. They said materials like gelignite can become unstable if not handled correctly. Poor storage conditions can increase the risk of accidental detonation.
The region has seen years of conflict between armed groups and Myanmar’s military. However, authorities have not confirmed any link between the Myanmar explosion and fighting in the area.
Investigations continue as rescue teams search for answers. Communities in the area are now dealing with loss, damage, and ongoing uncertainty after the Myanmar explosion.
