Antigua Opens Renovated Autopsy Suite and Morgue

Antigua and Barbuda has officially opened a renovated autopsy suite and morgue, replacing the former facility associated with Holberton Hospital following years of concerns about working conditions.

Health Minister Michael Joseph opened the facility on October 12 at the junction of Factory Road and Nugent Avenue. The upgraded space is designed to support post-mortem examinations, death investigations and the dignified handling of deceased persons.

The facility includes an autopsy room, morgue, offices, a conference room and storage areas. It also provides a designated waiting area for families who come to view their loved ones.

Permanent Secretary Stacey Gregg-Paige stressed the importance of treating grieving families with compassion and sensitivity. Officials also highlighted the need for professionalism, accountability and proper maintenance to preserve the upgraded facility.
