OECS Leaders Unite on CBI Response to EU Proposal
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has secured the support of fellow OECS leaders for a coordinated regional response to the European Union’s proposal to phase out Citizenship by Investment (CIP) programmes in the Eastern Caribbean by June 2028.
During discussions in Dominica, Browne argued that these programmes remain important sources of revenue and development financing for several small island states, supporting areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, housing, and climate resilience. He also highlighted reforms made to strengthen transparency and oversight through regional regulatory measures.
OECS leaders agreed to pursue a unified diplomatic approach with the European Union, including further engagement with European officials. Browne said the region remains committed to maintaining strong standards while defending the economic interests and development needs of small island states.
