Government to Debate Resolution on US Deportee Proposal

The Antigua and Barbuda government is set to debate a resolution in Parliament outlining the principles that would guide any potential arrangement involving the transfer of third-country nationals from the United States. The resolution is intended to ensure that any future discussions are conducted within a framework that prioritizes the country’s sovereignty, security, laws, resources, and national interests.

Government officials have emphasized that no binding agreement currently exists and that no final arrangement has been signed. The administration has also pledged to make public both the proposal received from the United States and the government’s response, describing the move as an effort to promote transparency and accountability.

According to the proposed framework, Antigua and Barbuda would retain full discretion over whether to accept any individual case and would not participate in any automatic or open-ended programme. The resolution also outlines requirements related to security, documentation, funding, legal status, accommodation, and administrative capacity before any proposal could be considered.
