Sports Minister Dwayne George has praised Antiguan cricketer Shawnisha “Britney” Hector after her selection to the West Indies Women’s T20 World Cup squad.

George described the achievement as a historic moment for Antigua and Barbuda. He said Hector became the first woman from the country to represent the West Indies Women’s Team in both T20 Internationals and One Day Internationals (ODIs).

The minister said Hector’s success reflects years of hard work and commitment to cricket.

Earlier this year, Hector earned the Most Valuable Player award during the Women’s T20 Blaze Tournament while representing the Leeward Islands Stormers.

George said her selection to the regional squad is a major accomplishment for both the player and the nation.

He also praised Hector’s leadership record. She previously captained the Antigua and Barbuda Women’s Team and the Leeward Islands Women’s Team.

“She has demonstrated dedication, discipline, and exceptional leadership throughout her cricketing journey,” George said.

Hector has also represented several local clubs, including Piggotts Cricket Club, Police Cricket Club, and Bolans Cricket Club.

George said her rise in regional cricket should inspire young women and aspiring athletes across Antigua and Barbuda.

He added that Hector’s journey shows how passion, perseverance, and discipline can create opportunities at the highest level of sport.

Hector’s inclusion in the West Indies Women’s T20 World Cup squad marks another major milestone in her cricket career.
