Breaking

Breaking: Samantha Marshall and Joanne Massiah have received ambassador-at-large appointments in Antigua and Barbuda.

The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda approved the appointments during Thursday’s meeting.

Meanwhile, Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant announced the decision at the post-Cabinet briefing.

Merchant said the ambassador-at-large appointments follow a wider review of diplomatic assignments.

The review started after the April 30 general election.

According to Merchant, the Cabinet believes both women bring strong leadership and public service experience.

“Cabinet extended congratulations to both appointees,” Merchant said during the briefing.

He added that the ambassador-at-large appointments will help Antigua and Barbuda regionally and internationally.

Furthermore, Merchant said the government wants experienced professionals in diplomatic positions.

The ambassador-at-large appointments will include different portfolios and responsibilities over time.

In addition, the Cabinet continues reviewing diplomatic appointments after the general election.

Merchant said the government wants people who can support foreign policy and investment goals.

The administration also plans to expand trade, tourism, and education opportunities.

At the same time, officials want stronger international partnerships and climate resilience programmes.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet congratulated Marshall and Massiah on their new ambassador-at-large appointments.

Officials also expect additional diplomatic appointments in the coming weeks.
